thank god i'm not alone in being weirdly fascinated with this particular character detail! a friend of mine was once in a similar situation and described it thus: "i've always wanted to be the other woman" - the way he put it was so succinct that it's now lodged in my mind forever. i get the feeling eliot has that particular complex in spades. can't quite deal with the pressure of being someone's main squeeze, but a bit on the side? he can act that part so well. most people talk about the threesome in season 1 in terms of quentin's infidelity to, let's face it, a relationship that was never going to work out no matter what book canon tells us, but i'm way more interested in what it says about eliot as a deeply insecure agent of chaos.
