first person used to be very, very hard for me to do, because i associated it with all the self insert fiction (not fannish) that i wrote circa age 14-15. i really only got back into it because of the secret history, which is written in first person but also a highly literary style, and it kind of woke me up to all the interesting things you can do with the perspective. i think it is harder, because you need to consider the character's presence in much greater detail, how much they know at any given time, balance their interiority with observances, maintain consistent characterisation 24/7... UGH!! just thinking about it... !!!
