is reworking a classic myth a pyrrhic victory in and of itself?
magicians thoughts and theorising... was going to stick this on pillowfort but lol that site's kind of dead isn't it? i am doing my best to make dreamwidth my home. please look forward to more content even if it is just more of this bullshit!
- the 4x13 summary is something like "Quentin reflects on his actions; Quentin and Josh have some cake." - i'm typing it from memory so the wording may be wrong but this is the gist. so are we all agreed that quentin is going to end the season trapped in the mirror world? and this'll be the price he pays for saving eliot or whatever?
- (i don't want to speculate about who dies! [ezra furman voice] i don't wanna think about it! i don't wanna think about it!)
- i was just saying this in an embarrassingly gushing comment on one Page161of180's newest fic (read it!) but i honestly think the show is going to pull a pyrrhic victory on this one. quentin saves eliot, but at what cost? the aftermath is going to be bad and quentin is going to blame himself.
- saw someone on tumblr say that the other half of the 4x13 summary means quentin and josh are both going to have some seriously good sex and you know what? they're right and they should say it. only acceptable interpretation. let quentin and eliot bone down before everything goes to shit!
- as for josh, i want to not be sold on josh/margo - apart from anything else it seems kind of sudden for margo to fall in love with him, as much as i personally adore josh - but the fucking ipod scene was SO damn cute i was curled up on my chair clutching my knees to my chest and grinning. i can't help it that i'm a sucker for that shit!!! and then they used THAT song... ugh. synthpop. i'm verklempt.
- with the twist that the monster is looking to rebuild his sister's body, i'm going to say i called it and his sister is pandora? just been brushing up on my greek mythos (it's been a long time since i had to do mythology quizzes in high school, okay? i got a gold medal in one of those though) and found this gem on wikipedia: "Prometheus had (fearing further reprisals) warned his brother Epimetheus not to accept any gifts from Zeus. But Epimetheus did not listen; he accepted Pandora, who promptly scattered the contents of her jar." they've already played fast and loose with prometheus so here's a brother. waiting to be able to say i told you so.
- i mean i'm probably wrong but. shhhhhh
- i continue to be compromised in new and exciting ways by the monster being handsy with quentin. i mean i want to be clear I Don't Like This but i also need more of it. it's just... it's SO fucked up! it's messy! it's... weirdly tender! i would not exactly say "i ship it" but i certainly do enjoy seeing these interactions in a kind of, oh god, this is badwrong, time to dig myself a pit and live in it, way.
- wait okay one second i need to talk about the mirror world again. i loved bitchy alice. i LOVED her. this was weird because i don't like alice! and we've seen some other alices before (still waiting on the explanation for cassandra?) who i've been eh about. i didn't like alice in the books and to be honest not really a fan of the actor either - so this really took me by surprise. the accidental splitting... hmm, i don't think that'll happen to quentin, but it could be a way they try to trap the monster? i mean - two "people" sharing the same body, yeah? and the monster doesn't technically have a body of his own?? stick the monster in the mirror world and keep eliot out here. wow hey i could write that fic. maybe once it's been definitively jossed i can do a canon div au but until then it remains a theory and i will wait and see. anyway i'm just saying this chekhov's mirror world is a really useful conceit for dealing with multiple people in one body and also the kind of thing that i could foresee going really badly wrong in a season finale and ending with quentin trapped in the mirror world alongside the monster... oh, fuck, i really might have to write this.
- this would also mean, though, that quentin does not get to have his cake. alas
- anyway the m irror world stuff was the shit, i love zelda and her weird mannerisms and her frankly sexy outfits
- also i love fen. i love fen!

I feel you re: not shipping something, but rather, "I enjoy watching this dynamic be explored."
(And yes I think Pillowfort is dead. We shall hunker down here in DW for now!)

to be honest the more time i spend in fandom, the more i gravitate away from the idea of a "ship" - i guess people these days have this real burning need for ships to have some strong relationship to canon, and i just can't bring myself to bother with the fervour, even for things i consider otp. i just want to read about good dynamics!!
pity about pillowfort tbh, i think probably they got too excited, launched the site too soon, and now it's struggling to keep up with what people want out of it.

I'm still definitely a shipper! But I feel re: good dynamics. I am consistently falling down rabbit holes of pairings, friendships, etc. that intrigue me.
