the magicians s4 second half rewrite I may or may not write one day
- Apologies in advance I'm dead tired after teaching all night and typing this on my phone, but I need to get it out of my system
- So things start diverging around the time Margo discovers the ice axes, in that they're not a thing in this AU (sorry Margo, you can have your grand quest later)
- That also means no brakebills south, no opportunities for Q and Alice to get smoochy
- Instead the gang plans to use Chekhov's mirror magic to split Eliot into himself and the monster
- Alice, Q, and Margo perform the spell and it works but Q ends up trapped in the mirror realm
- Meanwhile Julia and Penny are talking to the binder who tells them all about the monster and his sister
- (I'm not changing the hedge plot, Kady is busy with that this entire time)
- (Josh and Fen are holding the fort in Fillory sorry guys)
- So the monster buggers off to find his sister leaving the others to deal with the Q problem
- Anyway somehow it's revealed that the underworld is stored in the mirror realm, I mean where else do you put it? A parallel dimension, a pocket world? No way man that would get super unwieldy, each dimension has its own underworld in the mirror world
- So to get there they need to speak to a dragon, facilitated unfortunately by Poppy
- Picture this: both of Q's exes in the same place as Poppy who counts herself among their number, all of them feeling very awkward about it
- Poppy gives them something exciting to give to whichever dragon they choose, and Penny 23 goes off to get Q, figuring he'll be able to travel once he's there
- The monster chooses this as the perfect time to show up with his sister who needs a new body, Julia is the only one present who knows about this so everyone else is caught off guard
- Also because everything has to go wrong at once, Poppy's dragon egg starts to hatch
- Eliot reasons with his monster twin to spare Julia while Poppy freaks out over her egg; meanwhile Alice and Margo are the only ones unoccupied and they're like, wait, what if we get him to put his sister in the dragon
- So naturally Poppy goes spare at this idea but lbr she has a human baby to worry about too, and anyway the monster likes the idea of giving his sister an even tougher body, so he grabs the baby dragon and disappears
- Meanwhile in the underworld Penny 23 runs into Penny 40 and they have a D&M which basically boils down to both of them are miserable, Penny 23 likes this Julia but she's not his Julia, and he feels that he has no purpose in this timeline, so they do a self-sacrificing bullshit bodyswap
- But first both of them go to find Q together, cue comedy
- So Penny 40 goes back to Earth with Q
- Q: is there a catch to this, like I can't look over my shoulder or... ?
- Penny 40: dude you're remembering the myth wrong, let's just get outta here
- Then Q gets to be in a room with both his exes and Poppy (Penny, Julia, and Margo are mostly just amused by this, but poor Q, let him rest)
- In fact Q goes home and has a very long nap while the others deal with the monster and the dragon baby sister
- And look I need to sleep so I don't care how this happens rn. Idk maybe Julia gives up the last of her god powers during the final battle, also the monster turns good and joins their side
- The point is Penny 40 gets back with Kady and joins the hedge insurrection
- Alice does too tbh. Penny/Kady/Alice anyone?
- Margo gets to go on a quest that doesn't revolve around saving anyone else
- Q and Eliot have time and space to work things out, made complicated by their sitcom style living arrangement with Eliot's monster twin who is slowly learning to be human (I have so many thoughts about this dynamic but. Tired)
- Of course the baby dragon survives and goes to live with its real family
- Oh also Dean fogg and Zelda are fine. Josh is single. Fen is a lesbian. Thanks for listening
- The end
