haikyuu just happens so much

like i really thought i was past this? i haven't read most of nationals; i think i got halfway through the inarizaki game, i enjoyed the new characters a lot but i've been busy with my phd and then furudate just kept introducing new characters and teams and i lost the motivation to catch up. i don't like to say "i'll NEVER write/read fic for this again" but with hq... my interest really dwindled. then two weeks ago all the dear friends i made in the hq fandom started LOSING THEIR SHIT over something and i was like... okay i'll bite...

my first impressions of the new arc were... not great. i was sad, at first, that hinata and co's next three years at karasuno were being glossed over. the third years' graduation felt anticlimactic. i was scared we'd get a new arc that would introduce a bunch of new characters and i'd just feel that same burnout i felt before. worse, i was scared it would be a 19 years later sort of deal, a neat and tidy epilogue and then that would be that. i expected that there would be a brief flashback to cover what happened in the meantime and i assumed i would be bummed about it.

reader, that little flashback RUINED MY GODDAMN LIFE. i would probably not be such an EMOTIONAL WRECK if furudate hadn't confirmed my theory i've been nursing since 2015 at least that datekou should and would win the sendai inter-high in the next year. we got a whole panel of datekou boys crying! the former third years cheering in the stands! oh my god, this is like a shot of serotonin straight to the brain. all those years loving these minor characters... there they are... they went to nationals and came in the top 16........ MY BOYS....................

the latest chapter surprised me too. they're obviously not going for the rio olympics, since it's 2017, and it was shown that kageyama played there. so... he went to rio, and didn't meet up with hinata? lord, i don't ship it, but that is some potent angst. they were shown graduating, parting on good terms! but it was heavily implied they didn't meet up in brazil!!! so what is the new arc going to be, just hinata playing beach volleyball? like i'm honestly not here for that, i want to know what yamaguchi and tsukishima are studying at university, i want to know if oikawa or ushijima or the miya twins are on the national team with kageyama, i want to follow the characters i got to known and love!!!

but like. i guess that's what fanfic is for. and with a few throwaway panels in that update (datekou winning inter-high, confirming what hinata's classmates are doing now) i'm jazzed again, i'm hyped up about these characters! i have NO time to write fic (by the way i'm writing mindhunter fic now, that's a thing that's happening) and the fandom is so big that it'll be hard to find anything i want to read. but GOD i care so much! i care!!! i don't care if furudate doesn't even show us tsukki again and it's just a whole arc of hinata playing beach volleyball in rio. i'll just have to write about it myself.

anyway, it's just WILD how much this awoke my Tsukki Brain... one of my fav characters in anything ever. i want to know where he is and ~~if he's dating yamaguchi yet~~ what he's doing! i thought i'd be like "i need datekou fic now" but actually? they won inter-high. i am CONTENT on that front. i am at peace, i don't need to write anything. (i've already written all the post-canon datekou rarepair fic that i personally need, thank you.) tsukki though? TSUKKI??????? did you know i have a tsukki figurine? a high school friend of mine won it at a claw machine in japan (she's a beast at claw machines) and gave it to another high school friend, the one who got me into haikyuu, and she in turn gave it to me because she doesn't care that much about tsukki. so i have him. i care so much. this is life-ruining. furudate please tell me what tsukki is doing now
